“Human Animal Project” is an ongoing research through which we aim at developing a creative environment where we use elements from athletics, dance and martial arts to deepen the understanding of our bodies and the endless potential of physical interactions with others and the world. Our goal is to establish a medium where learning and problem-solving are key driving forces of our behaviour in the practice.
During this workshop, we will cross barriers between disciplines to develop a better understanding of human movement. We will integrate elements from various disciplines such as contemporary dance, breakdance, capoeira, grappling, fighting monkey practice and athletics (mixed movement studies) thus developing a more responsive and adaptable organism.
We will explore areas such as:
1. Know The Body:
This practice will enable us to better understand our structure and develop a vocabulary that will serve us as a compass for exploration of our structure.
2. Coordination:
Whole body coordination is key to efficient and adaptable movement. In this practice area, we will develop a deeper understanding of how the body organizes itself rhythmically in space and time. A well-coordinated structure is one that can respond, adapt, and maintain its integrity over the years. Coordination is the key to athletic and dextrous movement.
3. Improvisation:
Task Based Learning (Constraint Led Approach) - is a form of exploration in which the learner engages with different tasks in order to learn and discover a variety of motor behaviours. Such practice gives space for the learner to explore, to test and speculate. To actively learn through problem solving and not solely by imitation. Task based exploration is at the foundation of our practice and it is what drives creativity and lays the ground for developing flexibility and adaptability of behaviour.
4. Movement Scenarios and Games:
We develop the ability to adapt to dynamic and changing environments by simulating scenarios that require us to move, react, and respond to information in our surroundings. By engaging in a variety of games we can bring our movement into a state where it can flexibility adapt to the dynamics of different contexts. Since the human animal does not evolve to move in a static and easily predictable environment, it is important for our overall development to engage in play with others and learn how to explore, manipulate, and abstract potential functions of various tools.
